All Montage Flight Operations Department staff must be “can do” people, deeply committed to getting the job done efficiently and safely.
Everyone must be able to work in a crew/team environment, with excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills. As always in aviation, attention to detail is critical, as is the ability to multi-task.
Specific responsibilities of – and requirements for – our team members are as set out below.
Pilots– $120-144k pa + bonus (net of local taxes)
Pilots will work on a “6/3” roster, i.e. 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off.
Our Pilots are the mainstay of our Flight Operations Department. Operating our PC-12 aircraft in primarily single pilot operations, our pilots will be responsible for getting our people and critical cargo to and from our sites efficiently and safely.
Our senior pilot carries the title Chief Pilot (CP) and the deputy is Deputy Chief Pilot (DCP). Line Pilots (LPs) will earn $120k pa + bonus net of local taxes. In the event that the LPs are also current Licensed Aircraft Engineers (LAEs)/A&Ps, their pay will equal the CP’s at $144k pa.
All board and lodging will be provided, as will economy airfares between Abidjan and the nominated point of hire, which can be anywhere in the world.
The Chief Pilot, assisted by his Deputy, serves as the go-to aviation professional for all flight operations matters. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position is responsible for all aspects of operation and maintenance of the company’s aircraft. All pilots will report to the CP.
Responsibilities of Line Pilots will include but not be limited to assisting the Chief Pilot in:
- Establishment of, and adherence to, Company Flight Operations Manual
- Ensuring the Flight Operation Department’s compliance with all relevant local regulations and Company policies
- Management of aircraft maintenance
- Maintaining detailed records of all aircraft operations and maintenance, and safeguarding records in such a way to reduce the risk of destruction
- Establishing and ensuring adherence to procedures for reporting irregularities during flights, ground/safety checks and maintaining of records
- Devising and regularly generating Flight Operations Department monthly KPI reporting
- Safely and expeditiously conducting passenger and cargo flights, nearly always as sole pilot Captain but occasionally as co-pilot, in accordance with local Air Law, Company Standard Operating Procedures, and general aviation norms
- Flight planning to take into account weather, aircraft performance, airport/fuelling requirements, etc. to ensure the safe operation of the aircraft
- Preparation and filing of flight plans and passenger manifests and completing aircraft load sheets
- Line training of new pilots
- Inspecting the condition of the mine site airfields
- Liaising with engineering staff as necessary
- Moving aircraft into and out of the hangar
- Refuelling aircraft
- Supervision of the loading and unloading of passengers and cargo
- Diligently completing initial and recurrent training as required
- Such other actions in the management of the Flight Operations Department as from time to time required
The successful candidate(s) must have:
- Valid ATPL(A) or CPL(A) issued by FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, CASA Australia, SACAA or UK CAA.
- Valid Instrument Rating (IR) – restriction to single-engine is acceptable
- Valid Class 1 medical certificate
- At least 1,000h as Pilot in Command (PIC) of turbine-powered aircraft
- At least 500h total time on single-engine turbine aeroplanes (this requirement is waived for ex-military pilots who have completed a course of military flying training on single-engine turbine aeroplanes)
- Extensive knowledge of general aviation aircraft and their service requirements plus the needs of crew and passengers.
- Fluency in English language
- No accidents, incidents or violations
- Valid driver’s license
In addition, the successful candidate ideally will also have some or all of the following:
- Completion of PC-12 Type Rating course (whether or not required by license type)
- Experience flying PC-12
- Experience of flying instruction, whether or not holding a current rating
- Service as a pilot in a major military air arm (e.g. RAF, USAF, RN, USN, RAAF, AAF)
- Fluency in the French language
- Experience of corporate flying
- Experience of flying in West Africa
- Experience of aviation maintenance, ideally also being a Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE)/A&P
- Experience of Air Operator or Corporate Flight Department start-up
